Dear Faculty, Students, and Guests,

Welcome to the Southern Regional Model United Nations website! SRMUN is a three day Model United Nations conference that is attended by undergraduate college students from across the country. Our primary mission is to educate, not only on the United Nations and world affairs, but also on how to conduct meaningful research, how to express ideas in formal writing, and how to debate issues. These skills are valuable in any field of study, and each year we are host to students from a variety of educational disciplines.

The theme for this year's conference is Promoting Partnerships for a Sustainable Future. Achieving sustainable development is a critical goal for the international community. While currently the term 'sustainability' is mostly associated with environmental issues, it also encompasses the idea of economic viability, the responsible use of agricultural and natural resources, the fair treatment of workers, and the efficient planning for urban and rural areas. Sustainable development will not be a goal that can be achieved by a single country, or a select group of nations, but will require the efforts of a global partnership to ensure the protection and proper use of these resources.

SRMUN has undergone tremendous growth over the last few years. This is very exciting, as we have had the opportunity to introduce Model United Nations to a number of new schools. Whether SRMUN is your first MUN conference or one of several you've attended, you will find our conference to be a great educational experience, both because of our pertinent topics of debate and our expert staff.
