Greetings! This section of the SRMUN web site is angled to tell you more about what SRMUN is - and a little more about Model UN as a whole. If you are looking for information on the upcoming SRMUN conference, check out here!
About Model United Nations
The United Nations is about gathering together the representatives of different cultures, political systems, and peoples, and giving them the opportunity to try and make the world a better place for our future generations.
Model UN Programs exist for the same reason. All across the United States, and throughout the world, young people gather together every year to simulate various bodies within the United Nations system, as well as other international governmental organizations. Model UN takes place at the middle school, high school, and collegiate level.
Students come together to learn from one another. They come together to teach one another. Model UN gives our future leaders an understanding of the problems our world faces, and the knowledge of how to best deal with those problems. SRMUN is a proud part of the Model UN Program in the United States.
Who or What Exactly is SRMUN?
Good question! SRMUN is a collegiate Model United Nations simulation that's run by more than just one school or one set of people. SRMUN, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to present the Southern Regional Model United Nations conference for collegiate student each fall. SRMUN is regulated by a Board of Directors which oversees the well-being of the conference as a whole, and picks a senior staff who handles an individual conference year. The board members are elected by the participants from year to year - some serve 2 year terms, others only one. A few individuals are appointed at the pleasure of the board for more permanent positions in order to ensure financial stability and continuity.
